Work With Us

Collaborative Research

Collaboration is central to how we work, and we actively seek research partnerships with academics, national labs, and industry researchers working on unsolved challenges for the power sector. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary partnerships, and projects where the partners are committed to working closely together towards an ambitious objective. If you are interested in developing a joint proposal or research partnership, please get in touch.

Industrial Projects

We are committed to seeing our research translated to practical application and creating value in the world. To achieve this, we work with industry partners on applied research, knowledge transfer, and demonstration projects that bridge the gap between academic research and real-world implementation. Funding mechanisms that can support this work include Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, Ofgem SIF and NIA projects, EPSRC Industry Doctoral Landscape Awards, EPSRC Prosperity Partnerships, and industrial fellowships offered by the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society. We can also support directly funded projects and DPhil studentships. If you have a challenge that could benefit from our expertise, we’d be pleased to discuss how we can work together.

Consulting and Expert Advice

Professor Morstyn and members of PSAL offer consulting and expert advice to industry, government, and regulatory bodies on power systems and electricity markets. This can range from short technical engagements to sustained advisory roles. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

Technology Licensing

We are committed to the wide adoption of our research, and the majority of our methods, software tools and models are published openly and made freely available. However, where our research has led to patentable innovations which require commercial development to achieve impact, we work with Oxford University Innovation to support licensing as a pathway to knowledge transfer and sustainable deployment at scale. Our licensable technologies are listed below:

  • GridFlexDC (patent pending) enables AI data centres to deliver fast timescale power flexibility, including high-value frequeny regulation services. Reinforcement learning controls GPU power capping with sub-second resolution to deliver flexibility while minimising the impact on computing quality-of-service. Please get in touch if you are interested in commercialising GridFlexDC.

Support Our Research

Philanthropic support can fund research that sits outside normal grant cycles, including high-risk high-reward research, work on tools and policies with widespread but diffuse benefits, and strategic laboratory infrastructure. If you share our commitment to a low-cost high-reliability pathway to net-zero and believe in the value of independent, rigorous, interdisciplinary research, we’d welcome a longer conversation.
